Germany's Wine Regions
Germany’s total vineyard area is divided into 13 distinct wine regions, concentrated in the southern and southwest part of the country. The long growing season (the harvest sometimes extends into November) and the moderate warmth of summer makes for wines that are more delicate and less alcoholic than those in southern wine-growing countries. Different types of soil, considerable differences in regional climate, as well as a region’s traditional grape varieties all contribute to German wine’s diversity.
