The 2019 ProWeinTrade Fair is taking place in Düsseldorf on March 17, 2019 and over 20 types of German sparkling wines (Sekt) will be available for open tasting. These samples are the prizewinning entries from a total of 200 submitted samples and were chosen by a panel of judges of renowned Sekt experts from ten countries. The top three winners will be revealed at the DWI Stand.
This year’s ProWein topic was selected due to sparking wines’ increase in popularity. According to DWI Managing Director Monika Reule, “we have noticed an increased interest in sparkling wines in very many foreign markets. At the same time, German Sekt production has experienced a significant boost in quality in the last few years.
“At the ProWein, DWI is hoping to convince the trade of the international competitiveness of German sparkling wines, which are still too often underestimated. A special focus will be placed on Winzersekt (“Winegrower ́s Sekt” made from estate-grown grapes by the traditional method).
Other highlights from this year’sProWein trade fair include new Sekt cocktails presented by TV barkeeper Nic Shanker and guided Sommelier tastings. DWI will also present its new advanced training program “German Wine Professional” which comprises 13 modules and will be conducted in cooperation with all German wine regions.
