Paul Grieco’s Summer of Riesling: German Wine Virtual Class – July 17th, 2020 at 8pm ET
Terroir Tribeca’s Paul Grieco will lead a virtual wine class diving into legendary Doktor vineyard located in the town of Bernkastel in the Mosel.
Despite its small size, at only 3.3 hectares, the Bernkasteler Doktor vineyard holds a special place in wine history. It is said that in the 13th century, the Archbishop of Trier fell under a terrible illness while travelling through the Mosel Valley. After many failed attempts to cure him, he was served a glass of Riesling from this vineyard and suddenly experienced a speedy recovery. The name “Doktor” was attributed to the vineyard in honor of this story.
Doktor wines are among the most prized and expensive wines in the world, due to their unique expressions of Mosel’s terroir, as well as their aging ability. This vineyard stands at an incredibly steep slope of between 45-60%. The Riesling vines have roots extending over 10 meters down, and range between 80-100 years old. Due to these special characteristics, Rieslings produced here express distinct minerality and acidity.
Get your ticket to this exclusive wine class! Order your Bernkasteler Doktor wine from Terroir or send an email to Paul (pgrieco@wineisterroir.com) for a tasting sample suggestion that will leave you craving for more (available for NYC residents only).
